IU track team continues to represent well at NCAA Indoor Championships

The IU men’s track and field team competed at the NCAA Indoor Championsips in Boise, Idaho, this past weekend and finished in sixth place.

The Hoosiers collected 25 points and were just two points out of the top five. IU was the highest Big Ten team to place.

The team got off to a good start Friday with a second-place finish from its distance medley relay team, clocking a time of 9:35.67, just .19 seconds away from first place.

Later, senior Kind Butler took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 20.78 seconds, earning the school record in the event.

Junior Andy Bayer qualified for the finals in the mile by running it in 4:04.69, good for fourth place.

Senior Andrew Poore took second-team All-American honors in the 5,000 meters by finishing 14th with a time of 14:20.63.

On Saturday, Bayer took fifth in the mile in 4:02.13, which was less than half a second from the win. He also earned second-team All-American honors in the 3,000 meters by finishing 15th with a time of 8:16.95. Senior Ben Hubers finished 14th in 8:13.74.

Sophomore Darius King tied for second place in the high jump, clearing 2.23 meters, good for third in IU history. King had previously won the Big Ten title in the event.

Senior Olu Olamigoke finished 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.56 meters, earning him second-team All-American honors.

The 4x400 relay team took eighth place with a time of 3:10.75, the fourth-fastest in IU history. IU earned All-American honors in the event for the fourth time in school history.
