Journalism educator receives distinguished teaching award

IU’s Committee for University Distinguished Teaching Awards unanimously selected School of Journalism associate professor Jim Kelly to receive this year’s Herman Frederic Lieber Memorial Award.

The award is the second oldest of the University’s eight distinguished teaching awards, and faculty members from all eight IU campuses are eligible to receive the award, according to the press release by the University.

Kelly has been an educator since 2007 and taught photo and graphic journalism classes. His research focuses on the role of journalists in the production of news, and he has worked on projects in South Asia and East Africa to strengthen journalism and journalism education.

Kelly will be honored April 20 during Celebration of Distinguished Teaching dinner, he said.
