Homeless man booked for four charges

A Bloomington woman escaped from her ex-boyfriend, Isaac Collins, 37, long enough to call police after he allegedly struck her several times.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Steve Kellams said Collins and the victim spent Monday together.

Starting on the east side of town, they stopped at the Shalom Community Center.

They then rented a room at the Motel 6 on North Walnut Street.

They stayed in the room for several hours, Kellams said.

It was there that Collins allegedly assaulted the victim.

“They’d been arguing all day, and she’d gotten tired of it, so she decided to leave,” Kellams said.

Collins became upset when the victim made to leave.

He allegedly struck her face and neck.

Police observed bruises and scratches on her face and red marks on her neck, Kellams said.

“She said she was scared and couldn’t leave,” Kellams said.

The two stepped out of the motel for a cigarette at about 3 a.m. Tuesday. Collins went inside to retrieve their room key, and the victim left while he was away, Kellams said.

She walked to a friend’s house, where she called police.

“She refused medical attention,” Kellams said.

Collins was arrested Tuesday night at Scottish Inn Bloomington on South Franklin Road, Kellams said.

He was booked for Class D felony confinement, Class D felony strangulation, Class A misdemeanor intimidation and Class A misdemeanor domestic battery.
