Bloomington man reports robbery, residential entry

A Bloomington man reported a robbery Dec. 10 after a suspect with a semi-automatic handgun stole a laptop and a television set from his apartment.

The victim, 21, was visiting friends at a neighboring apartment complex when another friend entered the residence and said he saw someone walk inside the victim’s apartment in the 300 block of West Riley Drive.

The victim returned home.

Armed with a hammer, he began exploring the interior of his apartment, Bloomington Police Sgt. Shane Rasche said.

He told officers he went upstairs and noticed his laptop was missing.

Then he heard a noise coming from downstairs.

According to the police report, the victim descended to the apartment’s lower level and saw someone standing in the room holding an item belonging to his roommate.

The victim yelled, and the suspect turned to face him.

The victim told the police the suspect was wearing a hood over his head and a bandanna on his face, Rasche said.

The suspect allegedly pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at the victim, saying something along the lines of “don’t make me hit you again,” Rasche said.

The victim later told police he recognized the voice as belonging to someone he’d had a previous confrontation with.

By this point, some of the victim’s friends had joined him, Rasche said.

The suspect pointed the gun at the men, telling them to get out of his way.

The victim and his friends moved, and the suspect fled.

The suspect left the apartment with a television and laptop inside a large trash bag, Rasche said.
