Woman assaulted by boyfriend at dance marathon

A woman was assaulted by her boyfriend while participating in IU Dance Marathon early Sunday morning.

The victim argued with Devon McGuff, 21, at the IU Tennis Center during the event.

“McGuff open-hand struck his girlfriend and security escorted him out of the event,” IU Police Chief Keith Cash said. “IUPD then questioned him and arrested him.”

The incident occurred at 1:47 a.m. Sunday. McGuff is not an IU student, and it is unknown whether the victim was an IU student.

McGuff and the victim had dated for a couple years, Cash said. However, the assault did not shake the victim’s desire to participate in the dance marathon.

“She refused medical attention and continued with the event,” Cash said. “McGuff was arrested with a misdemeanor battery and a public intoxication.”
