Excise police find minors, marijuana, weapons in Fort Wayne bar

Indiana State Excise Police cited a Fort Wayne, Ind., bar Tuesday, where they not only found underage patrons but also handguns, marijuana and what’s suspected to be crack cocaine.

At 12:45 a.m., excise officers arrived at Sports and Spirits Bar and Grill and discovered three minors, Indiana State Police Cpl. Travis Thickstun said in a press release. All three were arrested, and two were cited for illegal consumption.

In the bar, officers also located two semi-automatic handguns, several bags of marijuana and “two partly-burnt marijuana ‘blunts,’” Thickstun said.

In the parking lot, officers arrested a man found to be in possession of 25 individually wrapped rocks of what appeared to be crack cocaine.

Sports and Spirits was cited for three counts of allowing a minor to loiter and was issued a warning for a gaming violation, Thickstun said.

Last month, a 36-year-old man was shot outside the same bar after getting into an argument.

“State Excise Police officers will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies to keep Indiana citizens safe,” Superintendent Matt Strittmatter said. “We are committed to ensuring that licensed establishments comply with Indiana law. Business owners who choose to violate the law will be held accountable.”
