Student assaulted on campus

An IUPD officer walking through Rawles Hall Friday afternoon spotted a 20-year-old female student with what appeared to be signs of an injury, IU Police Department Chief Keith Cash said.

Upon further questioning, the victim told police that her boyfriend had assaulted her earlier that morning at about 9:30 a.m., Cash said.

“The assault took place in Evermann Apartments (on) Friday morning,” Cash said.  “She said her boyfriend grabbed her arms and held her while attempting to choke her. The victim said after the assault took place, she felt no pain, and had no serious injuries.”

The male who assaulted her is a 21-year-old student, Cash said.

Police chose not to detain the subject because the report was filed after the incident occurred, Cash said.

“No arrest has been made as of now,” he said. “The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.”

Cash said the victim, who did not want to press charges, requested to be moved to a new location and has been moved away from the subject.

“She did not want anything further to happen,” Cash said. “She just wants no future contact with the subject.”
