Student assaulted in dorm after video game argument, no charges pressed

A 19-year-old student living in Forest Quad reported an assault Sunday to IU police officers, IU Police Chief Keith Cash said.

The incident started between 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday.

It began as a verbal argument between the victim and an 18-year-old student who lived on the sixth floor with the victim, Cash said.

“The two were arguing over money for a video game, and the subject grabbed the victim’s iPod as collateral,” Cash said.  “When this occurred punches were thrown, and the fight broke out.”

The fight was not reported to police until after the incident occurred.

The victim contacted police Sunday to get his options, Cash said.

“The victim did not want to press charges,” he said.  “We turn these cases into the Dean’s office, and it is normally taken care of within Residential Services.”
