Owen County man arrested after pursuit, foot chase

A high-speed pursuit which became a foot chase resulted in one man’s arrest and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Owen County Sheriff’s Department alerted area officers of a possible stolen vehicle leaving Greene’s Salvage Yard, Indiana State Police officials said in a press release.

The salvage yard is about four miles north of Spencer, Ind.
The vehicle was described as a blue Chevrolet Astro van with a broken driver’s side door window and a broken steering column.

Shortly after the alert went out, Indiana State Police Trooper William Brown saw a van matching the description.

When Brown attempted to catch up to the vehicle traveling westbound on Ramona Road, the van accelerated to elude the trooper. After passing two vehicles, the van stopped and the driver exited the vehicle. Brown then chased the suspect and subsequently arrested him.

Further investigation revealed the owner of the van was not aware the vehicle had been stolen from his drive in Beech Grove, Ind.
