Man charged with murder of 5 in Franklin County

A Glenwood, Ind., man has been formally charged with the murders of five people found shot to death in rural Franklin County.

David Ison was named a person of interest in the case just two days after the bodies were found.

Ison remains in the Ripley County Jail on charges stemming from an attempted armed robbery, Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin said in a press release.

During that arrest, state police detectives also issued a search warrant at Ison’s residence after obtaining information that possibly connected the suspect to the alleged murders.

The search warrant and investigation resulted in prosecutors filing murder charges Friday, Goodin said.

The murders were discovered two weeks ago after police responded to a report of a child wandering outside alone.

A deputy police officer arrived at the location and, after talking with the child and neighbors in the area, called for backup.

The state police discovered the body of a dead male in one house nearby and four other bodies — two males and two females — in a house across the street.

An autopsy revealed that all of the victims died from gunshot wounds to either the head or chest.

Even with Ison being charged, investigators said the case remains active.

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to contact the Indiana State Police in Versailles, Ind., at 812-689-5000.
