Cause of student's death is unconfirmed

Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer has confirmed that an autopsy took place Thursday in the case of Matthew Erickson, an IU freshman who died in his room in Read Center on Wednesday.
 
A cause of death will not be confirmed until toxicology reports come back, she said.
 
Meyer said that process could take as long as three to six weeks.
 
There was no cause of death at this point, and the performance of a toxicology test is standard procedure, she said.
 
“There was no visible indication that drugs had been used,” Meyer said.  “This type of thing is standard practice for an unexpected death such as this.”
