Former IU soccer player Drew Moor is on the 108-man ballot for the 2011 Major League Soccer All-Star game on July 27 in New York.
If the defender is voted in, it would be the first time the Colorado Rapids starter would be an All-Star.
“I think it is a good reward for some of the work I’ve put in here,” Moor said.
Former Hoosiers Kevin Alston of the New England Revolution and Will Bruin of Houston Dynamo are also on the ballot.
Moor said if selected as one of the 32 players on the game’s roster, it would help his overall career.
“When coaches look at guys and see they were in an All-Star game, he becomes a more valuable player than if he hadn’t been,” Moor said.
In the 16 games the Rapids have played this season, Moor has started every one.
Moor transferred to IU after his freshman year at Furman University in South Carolina.
At IU, Moor led the Hoosiers to NCAA championships his sophomore and junior years.
“I don’t think I would be a professional soccer player and where I am today if it hadn’t been for the system I played in at Indiana and some of the guys I played with,” he said.
Moor was drafted by FC Dallas in January 2005 and played there until 2009 when he was traded to Colorado. He ended up beating FC Dallas in the championship game
in 2010.
“I played in a lot of games and played with a lot of good players, but to win the championship here in Colorado my second season with the team was such a rewarding experience,” he said.
Moor said he hopes to continue to be a regular starter for the next few years, since many professional players stop playing around 32.
“If I am able to continue to contribute as a starter in the defense for the next five to six years, that would be extremely rewarding,” he said. “Obviously, all of us like to win trophies and be, part of competitive teams.
And if I can continue to help my team be playoff contenders and be an MLS Cup contender, that is the whole reason we are in the game, to win trophies like that. It is also something I think about every day when I come to training ground.”
