Death Cab expected to deliver again

If you find yourself arguing that Death Cab peaked with “We Have the Facts…” and has been trending steadily downhill ever since, please don’t even bother with this one.

These guys are 35, getting married and having kids and you’re not 16 and crying into your hoodie about some overblown adolescent heartache.

The band’s been priming fans for a shift in direction with promises of less guitar, a more textured sound — synths, a string section? — and a wider emotional range. Brian Eno and LCD Soundsytem have been name dropped as influences.

Sure it’s the next step in a predictable career ark, but it’s the right one. No one is buying into an album of breakup songs written by the guy who just married Zooey Deschanel.
