Man robs Big Red at knifepoint

Joshua North, 25, no known address, was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery, a B felony, and intimidation with a deadly weapon, a C felony, said Sgt. Joe Crider of the Bloomington Police Department.

Police responded to a robbery at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Big Red Liquors, 1115 W. Second St.

Staff members reported that a man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans with tattoos on his neck, arms, chin and the back of his hands robbed the store at knifepoint.

He approached a clerk inside the business who was sweeping the floor and demanded he open the register, Crider said. The clerk didn’t have the key, so the suspect then confronted the assistant manager.

An undisclosed amount of cash and some bottles of alcohol were taken and the suspect fled, Crider said.

Police reviewed video surveillance and found the suspect later in the shift. At 4:30 a.m., police were called to the Motel 6 at 1800 N. Walnut St., in response to a complaint of someone breaking into a room, Crider said.

North was found in the room. His clothes, shoes and tattoos matched those of the man who robbed the store. He was found in possession of a large amount of money and bottles of alcohol.
