Team seeks revenge against DePaul

The No. 47 IU women’s tennis team will play host to No. 34 DePaul at 11 a.m. Saturday and Cleveland State at 11 a.m. Sunday.

But it’s no secret where the Hoosiers’ focus lies.

“I don’t expect (Cleveland State) to be nearly the caliber of DePaul,” IU coach Lin Loring said. “I definitely expect that that’s going to be the easier of the two matches, so we’re not even talking about that right now. We’re really preparing everything for DePaul.”

The Blue Demons have won their last four matches and boast the country’s No. 55 doubles tandem of Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic. The Blue Demons also have the current bragging rights on IU (7-2).

“We’ve lost the last two years in a row to DePaul in very close matches, and we probably should have won one of those two,” Loring said. “So we want to do well on Saturday, and we’re really looking forward to that match.”

IU freshman Kayla Fujimoto said it will be important for the Hoosiers to start the match well.

“We’ve been struggling with doubles coming out strong,” Fujimoto said. “So I think we need to get on them early on in the match and get the momentum with the doubles point so we can bring it into singles, which we’re known to be stronger in.”
