IU professor to serve as president of folklore society

Diane Goldstein, professor of folklore and ethnomusicology, has been elected president of the American Folklore Society, an organization that has about 2,200 members.

Goldstein was informed of her new title in early January and will be president elect for a year, president for two years beginning January 2012 and past president for one year.

“I was delighted,” she said. “I have been a member of the organization for over 30 years, and it is important in my life.”

Goldstein is the fourth IU faculty member to be elected president of the American Folklore Society. As president, Goldstein said she will look after different functions including the quarterly journal (one of the oldest folklore journals in the world), the annual meeting in October, the website and a number of projects at any given time.

“It will be a busy four years, but hopefully it will all work together,” she said.
