Sun Airway’s debut has really long title, great beats

“Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier,” Sun Airway’s latest album, is a post-romantic journey into a nebula of swirling electro-synth melodies and major keys.

Amid the heartache the lyrics paint is airiness that the sound complements to weave imagery that detaches your ears from realism. When you’re listening to Sun Airway, you’re in the band’s world.

This is an easy one to write off as another indie album lacking substance, but after two or three listens, the subtleties will shine through. Each song taken individually sounds as if it could have been made on a Mac computer, but as a whole, this is a great work of artistic vision that has a personality of its own. “Oh, Naoko,” “Your Moon” and “American West” are standout tracks that epitomize the blissful longing the sound embodies.

Philadelphia’s Sun Airway puts together a great and unified album that’s impossible not to compare to “Animal Collective,” but it’s one that can just as easily collect dust at the bottom of your iTunes.
