Five faculty and staff members from IU were recently awarded 2010-11 Fulbright grants.
This year’s recipients represent a wide range of departments and schools, including history, philosophy, English, geography and education. The recipients also represent four of IU’s eight campuses: Bloomington, Indianapolis, Southeast and South Bend.
“In addition to their scholarly activities, an important mission for these Fulbright recipients is to act as ‘ambassadors’ of the United States,” said Patrick O’Meara, vice president for international affairs in a press release. “We are proud of the accomplishments of members of the IU community and the important role they play in strengthening ties between the United States and their host countries.”
Fulbright grants and awards are managed by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, or CIES. The CIES Core Scholar Program for faculty send about 800 faculty and professionals to various countries.
