IU Panhellenic Association will kick off registration for women’s rush with a Greek Opportunities for Women presentation Sunday.
Members of the PHA Excutive Council will speak and present a slide show about what it means to be a greek woman at IU and what each of the campus’ 19 chapters has to offer.
“It breaks down exactly what’s going to happen, from registration to 19 Party to first, second and preference rounds,” said senior Nicole Solman, vice president of recruitment. “It lays out every detail, what you’d need to know going into it blind.”
Each sorority will be represented at the event. Recruitment chairs and members of the houses will be available to talk about their chapters, meet potential new members and answer their questions. Rho Gammas, the women who advise rushees through the recruitment process, will also be in attendance.
There will be presentations at 2 and 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall, located inside the Indiana Memorial Union. Each session is expected to last an hour and a half. Students interested in recruitment are not required to attend. Registration for rush will open online beginning Sunday and will close October 31.
Solman said the event is a staple of the pre-recruitment process.
“This is purely to get a little insight for recruitment, visit with each chapter before going through the process and see if it it’s right for you, if you’re really interested in it,” Solman said.
Unlike the Interfraternity Council’s kickoff, however, there will not be an opportunity to sign up for pre-recruitment activities.
“With the number of women going through recruitment, each recruitment chair could walk away with a list of 2,000 women’s names and numbers.” Solman said. “There’s no way to invite 2,000 women over in the course of a month. We don’t want to give anyone false hope.”
