The IU Board of Trustees had its second meeting for this academic year Thursday in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
The board discussed the Academic and Health Affairs Committees and new degrees the school may offer.
John Applegate, vice president for University Regional Affairs, started the meeting by updating the board on IU enrollment numbers and percentages, after which Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson spoke about IU’s undergraduate education profile.
Both had visual presentations to accompany their speeches.
New degrees, including a doctoral degree in environmental health, epidemiology and more, were discussed and debated but deferred until Friday’s full board
business meeting.
After an hour break, the board reconvened in the afternoon to discuss a presentation on health care and health affairs.
The board discussed the decision of Clarian Health — a nonprofit organization that owns 20 hospitals and health centers in Indiana — to rename itself Indiana
University Health, as well as other concerns with the IU School of Medicine. IU Spokesman Larry MacIntyre said nothing was approved during the meeting on
health issues.
Friday, the trustees will meet from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. once again in Frangipani Room to hear the Finance and Audit Committee and the Facilities Committee discuss new updates and reports for approval.
The meeting will also take place Friday to go over general business and vote on the approval of what was deferred Thursday.
