The Monroe County Clerk’s Office is looking for people to work in its voting precincts on Election Day, Nov. 2.
In order for the election to be properly conducted, the county requires 469 positions to be filled.
Precinct poll workers must be able to read, write and speak English; be registered to vote in Monroe County; have transportation to and from the polling location and be able to attend the required training session either Oct. 26 or 27.
Additionally, workers may not be related to any candidate on the ballot any closer than second cousin and may not have wagered any property on the election’s outcome.
Poll workers are expected to be available from 5 a.m. Nov. 2 until polls close and results are returned to the clerk’s office that evening.
The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day. According to the Monroe County Clerk’s Office, votes are usually returned to the Clerk’s Office by 9 p.m., at which point election workers are free to leave.
All Election Day jobs are granted on a volunteer basis, but a small stipend is granted to those who do work the polls.
Interested people or those with questions should call the County Clerk’s Office at 812-349-5003, or e-mail County Clerk Jim Fielder at jfielder@co.monroe.in.us.
