Application for student trustee available online Monday

On Monday, the applications for student trustee will be available online.

Applications are due at 5 p.m. Jan. 21 with the new office term starting July 1, 2011. Any IU student — graduate or undergraduate — enrolled at any of the school’s eight campuses may apply. Students must be enrolled full-time for the duration of the
appointment.

Student trustees give the IU Board of Trustees input about student opinion and trends on campus. The student trustee is a fully vested member of the board with all rights, responsibilities and privileges accorded to all trustees.

The current student trustee, Abbey Stemler, is a third-year law student. She is the 18th student to hold this position. Her term expires June 30, 2011.

“Serving on the board has been an incredible honor and responsibility,” Stemler said in a press release. “Every day, I am challenged to understand a variety of perspectives and make decisions that will affect the institutions for decades to come.”
