Football student section to become ‘The Quarry’

IDS REPORTS

For the second-straight season, the IU Athletics Department is asking Hoosier football fans to design a T-shirt for the Memorial Stadium student section.
This year, though, they have an official name to work with.

The seating between sections 21 and 26 in “The Rock” will be aptly named “The Quarry,” a decision made easy by a string of fan requests, said Pat Kraft, senior assistant athletic director for marketing.

“We got inundated with requests for The Quarry, and we were just like, ‘Yea, that fits,’” Kraft said. “It’s not often in marketing that an idea work perfectly.”

The T-shirt, which will be crimson colored, must center around The Quarry theme. Designs must be submitted by Thursday, with finalists being chosen and voted on between April 9 and 16. The winner will be announced at the Cream and Crimson Spring Game on April 17.

The T-shirts will be complementary to any student who buys 2010 season tickets.
IU Athletics had a similar situation during this year’s men’s basketball season, naming the student section the Crimson Guard with corresponding, fan-designed T-shirt.

While Kraft said he has been pleased with the results and feedback from the student section promotions, he said The Quarry could be the most successful.

“I can see this being better than the other ones,” he said. “I think people are ready and pumped for football.”
