SIGNS OF LIFE
It’s not all bad. Good things have come of IUSA this year.
Task Forces
The B-town administration created small focus groups, which came to be known as task forces, to work on issues. This new structure allows for students who really care about an issue to pursue it and also works to relieve the president from micromanaging all activities that go on in IUSA.
Historian
For the first time, IUSA has a historian to help create continuity by digitally archiving student government activities both past and present.
Making hard decisions
The current administration saved money by bucking tradition. It removed its land lines and let its executive assistant go – saving $35,000 for more worthwhile expenditures.
Building from the ground up
Instead of spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on GPS systems, IUSA developed the technology themselves and is implementing a bus tracking system similar to that of other Big Ten schools for some $5,000.
Congress reform
The IUSA Student Body Congress must approve any significant spending done by IUSA — therefore both branches must operate for success. B-town implemented a dress code and appointed an administrator for congress, changes on which both branches have thrived.
