Public intoxication ends in arrests

The IU Police Department dealt with at least two cases of people returning to residence halls on campus inebriated this past weekend.

On Saturday at 12:35 a.m., IUPD Officer Shahrani witnessed a subject on Sunrise Drive, near the Teter Quad, carrying a box containing alcohol.

“Three individuals are facing preliminary charges of illegal possession of alcohol,” IUPD Lt. Craig Munroe said.

On Saturday at 12:41 a.m., IUPD Officer Scudder observed two male subjects traveling toward Read Center. Scudder noticed Connor Jarvis, 19, and Michael Breitung, 19, “stumbling up a flight of stairs,” according to the police report.

Both are faced with a preliminary charge of illegal possession of alcohol.
Another case occurred on the outskirts of campus.

On Sunday at 2:03 a.m., IUPD Officer Vanleeuwen was patrolling 19th and Lincoln Streets upon noticing a male subject, Bradley Lux, 20, standing in the middle of the street with his arms raised, shouting at a vehicle. After noticing the officer, Lux began walking in a fast-paced manner in the opposite direction.

Vanleeuwen was able to catch up to the suspect.

“Lux was holding a half empty bottle of liquor,” according to the police report.
His eyes appeared to be bloodshot and Vanleeuwen smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Lux. 

The suspect is facing a preliminary charge of illegal possession of alcohol.
