Indiana welfare
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s human services agency likely will roll out its new “hybrid” welfare intake system in 10 southwestern Indiana counties next week, a spokesman said. The Family and Social Services Administration announced last month that it would roll out the hybrid system in 10 counties around Evansville sometime in January without specifying when. Agency spokesman Marcus Barlow said the change probably would occur during the last week of January.
Public gun permits
INDIANAPOLIS – Public access to the state database of people with permits to carry guns would be closed under a bill on its way to the floor of the Indiana House. Former Hammond mayor Thomas McDermott Sr. is behind by nearly $120,000. His $1.6 million home in one of Crown Point’s most affluent neighborhoods escaped the county treasurer’s tax sale in July.

INDIANAPOLIS – The nominees for three vacancies on the federal bench in Indiana include a woman who could become the state’s first black federal judge. Marion Superior Court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt is one of the three nominees announced Monday by Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind.
