Planned Parenthood offering discount AIDS tests

INDIANAPOLIS — Planned Parenthood's Indianapolis health centers are offering half-price HIV and AIDS testing in recognition of World AIDS Day.

The tests that are normally $25 will be offered for $12.50 starting Tuesday in Marion County. The discounts are being covered by a grant from the Indiana AIDS Fund, and the half-price tests will continue until funding runs out.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana hopes the lower cost will spur more people to get tested. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more than 1 million people in the United States have HIV, but more than 20 percent don't know they're infected.

The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988 to promote AIDS awareness and education on Dec. 1 each year.
