Former IU coach Mike Freitag held a private press conference today in which he discussed his dismissal from the IU soccer program.

Freitag thanked his former and current players, saying he was proud to be a part of the IU soccer family. Freitag also discussed the situation about his dismissal.

“I would like to go on record that I do not agree with my dismissal or that of my assistants,” Freitag said. “I am especially disturbed with the manner in which the evaluation of my program went down. The timing was truly unprofessional.”

The contracts of fourth-year assistant Phil Presser and first-year assistant Aleksey Korol will not be renewed at the end of the year.

Freitag said he will focus on assisting the new incoming coaching staff. He said he is confident the administration will choose a great coach to direct the premier program that is IU soccer.

“It is with mixed emotions we are leaving Indiana University,” he said, “but we thank you all for these wonderful years and the special memories IU soccer has provided for each of us.”
