Colleagues organize Friday evening vigil to honor slain professor

Don Belton

IU and Bloomington community members plan to meet Friday on the Bloomington Square to honor the life of IU assistant professor of English Don Belton.

The vigil will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on the southeast corner of the Monroe County Courthouse, across from the Trojan Horse restaurant. The public is invited to attend the gathering, and candles will be provided.

Belton was found stabbed to death around 10 a.m. Monday in his home on the 900 block of South Madison Street in Bloomington.

Belton began teaching at IU in fall 2008 and was a member of the Creative Writing Program faculty.
