IU to begin H1N1 vaccination Monday only

IU will begin immunizing some students and staff for H1N1 flu Monday.

IU has received 980 doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine from the Indiana State Department of Health and will immunize those signed up for the “Day 1, Week 1” slot through the online reservation system, according to a University press release.

The free vaccinations will be distributed beginning at 11 a.m. Monday until doses of the vaccine are depleted. At this time, IU has only enough doses for Monday, according to an IU press release. Students and employees with reservations should enter the South entrance of Assembly Hall.

The University advises:

– Any student or employee with a “Day 1, Week 1” reservation will receive a confirmation e-mail denoting the vaccination date, which is Nov. 16.

– Each student or employee should print off and present his or her H1N1 Vaccine Reservation Ticket at the appointment. However, if the reservation ticket is lost, those
getting vaccinated should arrive anyway and the clinic check-in staff will verify the appointment.

– Anyone with appointments between 5 and 7 p.m. should come early because of an 8:30 p.m. IU men’s basketball game.

– Those being vaccinated should arrive at least 10 minutes prior to their reservation time.

– Those arriving after 5:30 p.m. must park in the White Lot west of Memorial Stadium.

– To receive the vaccination, those with the appropriate reservation must arrive with a completed H1N1 influenza vaccine consent form, and, if under age 18, also a signed H1N1 influenza parental consent form.

– Students and staff should wear a short-sleeve shirt to the appointment in order to accommodate an efficient and smooth vaccination process. The IU Health Center plans to vaccinate about 120 people per hour.

– If a student or employee cannot keep a reservation for Monday due to unforeseen circumstances, he or she should call 812-855-7688 to cancel the appointment, so someone else can take the spot.

Future announcements about more vaccine becoming available to students and employees with reservations will be made as more vaccine arrives.

Updates can be found on the IU Health Center’s Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/IUHealthCenter.

Qualified students and employees at IU Bloomington can still reserve a vaccination by visiting either the IU Bloomington home page at www.iub.edu, the IU Health Center home page at healthcenter.indiana.edu or the Health Center page in OneStart.
