I’m not a morning person, especially when cold weather rolls into town. If I get out of my toasty bed, I want to get in a warm, inviting shower as quickly as possible.
I don’t think I’m alone in that routine. But there is part of my routine that I used to think was my own, special piece.
About 30 seconds into my delightful shower, I would supply a shower of my own – a good ol’ golden shower.
Peeing in the shower is a pastime for me, starting before I can remember. But when I was young, the concept made sense to me.
Why pee in the toilet? You’re already in a body of moving water. It seems redundant to use the toilet, too.
Besides, you’re in a “comfort-zone” in the shower. There’s warm water moving all around you, soothing you, caressing you until your stress and worries fade away.
Most importantly, taking a piss in the shower is fun. I mean, hell, you can spin around in circles while peeing the shower. Try doing that with a toilet.
Pee is sterile, so it’s not dangerous to drain the dragon in the shower, unless you have some kind of disease that can be transferred through pee, like hepatitis. If that’s the case, I think you have some bigger problems to worry about than peeing in the shower.
Best of all, you’re being green by making your shower golden. A Brazilian environmental group, SOS Mata Atlantic, says that if Brazilian citizens flushed just one less time during the day, they’d be saving 1,157 gallons of water a year.
To put that in perspective, an Olympic swimming pool holds about 660,000 gallons of water. So if about 570 Brazilians just took a tinkle in a shower, they would save up enough water to fill that pool to the brim in a year’s time.
It seems that, these days, people will go to great lengths to save our planet. By buying pesticide-free tomatoes, they feel good that their hard-earned money is going toward such a noble cause. By trading in their old V8s with triple Webers for nice, Japanese hybrids, they think they’re making their carbon footprint smaller.
So if you were willing to make changes in your day-to-day routine, why would you think twice about peeing in the shower? It saves you money and the saves the Earth a little bit of grief by decreasing the amount of water you use.
Still, there will be some people who read this and think “Ew. Going pee-pee in the shower is icky. I’m, like, so totally not doing that.”
Get over yourself. Nothing horrible will happen to you if you try peeing in the shower.
And who knows, maybe while you’re on your mission to save Mother Earth, you’ll find that peeing in the shower is actually fun.
It might just become the thing you look forward to doing when you wake up.
Ok, not that fun. But you get the point.
