Fire Department to receive state-of-the-art rescue tool

The Bloomington Fire Department will receive a new rescue tool donated by Keller & Keller law firm.

The tool is a BEAST Multi-Tool Cutter/Spreader and was manufactured by Champion Rescue Tools, according a press release.  It is used to quickly remove victims from car accidents.

It will help rescue personnel save precious minutes during rescues, BFD Chief Roger Kerr said in the release.

“Getting victims out of five-star, crash-rated cars is taking longer with older extrication tools, which weren’t made to cut through the sophisticated metals used in the safest new vehicles,” Kerr said. “The donation of Champion Rescue Tools by Keller & Keller will allow Bloomington’s firefighters to cut through these new metals much faster, making sure we can quickly attend to victims and get them to the hospital if needed.”

The firm also donated Champion Rescue Tools to Switz City.

“We’ve been searching for donation opportunities to help mitigate these types of serious injuries, and that led us to the Champion Rescue Tools and these two Indiana fire rescue services,” Jim Keller, Managing Partner at Keller & Keller, said in the release. “We chose Bloomington because of the department’s reputation for professionalism and dedication to the community, and we’re excited to partner with BFD on this very important project.”
