On last Thursday’s Opinion page, Ashley Ames argued that men are responsible for the current economic recession since it is men who headed all the large financial companies that have collapsed.
Well, I suppose fair is fair. We take responsibility.
But if we are going to segregate blame, it seems we should also segregate praise. I presume Miss Ames would also praise men for all of the economic growth caused by men before the current recession as well as any growth in the upcoming economic recovery.
If we are to be bashed when our risk-taking results in loss, we should also be praised when our risk-taking results in fantastic, long-term gain. Chastised in our failures, praised in our accomplishments.
Looking around at the relative prosperity of our country, I would have to say that American men by and large do a pretty good job.
