Orienter guide to keeping kosher

The whens and wheres of eating by the scroll

The Helene G. Simon Hillel Center at IU is located at 730 E. 3rd St., and is IU's leading resource for Jewish students.

Students looking to keep kosher as part of their religious beliefs can purchase a kosher meal plan through the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center – the campus Jewish center. All food is prepared at the Center in kosher kitchens and served in its dining room. Worried about making it for mealtime? Hillel has an open-fridge policy. Students are free to help themselves to leftovers anytime. Also available at Hillel is the Kosher Café, open from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and the weekly free Shabbat dinner, served at about 7:30 p.m. after Friday services. The Chabad House also serves a free Shabbat dinner, which features different foods from around the world once a month.

For more information visit Hillel’s Web site at www.iuhillel.org or the Lubavitch of Indiana’s Web site at www.lubavitchindiana.com.
