IU alumnus Pete Goldsmith was officially announced Thursday as the next dean of students.
“Pete is a highly accomplished student affairs professional who will bring a great depth of experience to the position,” Provost Karen Hanson said in a press release. “He has a proven record as an administrator who is profoundly responsive to student needs, and he is clearly driven by a desire to help students succeed. I am delighted to welcome him back to Bloomington.”
Goldsmith earned his undergraduate degree in government at IU and returned to the University for his doctorate in higher education administration.
Goldsmith has overseen student affairs and enrollment management at Kent State University since 2003.
Goldsmith will replace Dean of Students Dick McKaig, who is retiring after a 38-year career at IU. Goldsmith was one of four finalists for the dean position.
“I am very pleased and honored to return to my alma mater as the dean of students,” Goldsmith said in a press release. “Indiana has been a very important part of my life. I look forward to returning to provide leadership for student affairs at the University.”
