Far and away

About 18 percent of students in each graduating class will spend time studying in a foreign country. But before you (or your parents) write the experience off, get the facts, then weigh your options.

while she studied abroad for a semester in Paris.

If you’re interested in studying abroad, your first stop should be Room 303 in Franklin Hall at 4 p.m. on a Wednesday. Once there, you’ll listen to the Office of Overseas Study’s weekly information session which overviews the overseas programs: how they work, how much they cost and how to apply.

Although students worry about paying for the trip and still graduating on time, there are scholarships and grants available through the Office of Overseas Study and other University outlets such as the Hutton Honors College, the Kelley School of Business and other academic departments. Also, the University reports that most students who do study abroad are able to complete their degree in four years, or the required 128 credit hours.
