Oh la la ... pranked!

Sarah Palin's has been on many pundits’ minds. Some have suggested she host a talk show. Others have suggested that she run in 2012 if McCain loses or if he only wants to serve one term.

We small town, “pro-America” folk should have known better than to listen to those elite media liberals trying to tell us what our hero Sarah Palin might do. As a matter of fact, Palin’s happy to tell us about her career aspirations herself.

She wants to go hunting with Nicolas Sarkozy, president of France.

That’s right, hunting with the president of France. I wasn’t aware that France was one of those “pro-America” places. Nonetheless, in an embarrassingly simple prank call, Palin spoke with a Canadian comedian whom she believed to be the president of France.

The much-blogged incident confirms most everything we know about Palin.
She’s not much more than a simple schoolgirl who would have destroyed the dignity of the American presidency had John McCain’s advanced age ever required her to step into that role.

Neither “Betsy” – the poor receptionist who turned the phone over to Palin believing Sarkozy was on the line – nor Palin recognized the man’s exaggerated French accent or imagined that a president who complimented her on the “Nalin’ Paylin” documentary and mentions that his wife, model and songwriter Carla Bruni, is “so hot in bed” might be no president at all.

Neither did Palin suspect that “I love killing those animals, mmm, mmm, take away a life! That is so fun!” might be inauthentic. Rather, she just giggled nervously and dosed up folksy humor about “killing two birds with one stone” and valuing hard work.

But Palin’s gullibility isn’t without cure. Aside from illustrating her own political ineptitude, it is a larger reflection on an education system that leaves Americans unprepared to engage the world. With a bit more foreign language instruction, Palin might have understood that “Marcel, the guy with bread under his armpit” isn’t quite the French equivalent of Joe the plumber.

Likewise, she wouldn’t have had to rely on his translation of the song “Lipstick on a Pig” that his wife supposedly wrote for Palin. He told her the song was titled “Joe the Plumber.”

Isolated in Alaska, Palin furthermore failed to realize that the Prime Minister of Canada is Stephen Harper, not “Stef Carse.”

We shouldn’t be entirely without compassion when we criticize Palin for her lack of preparedness. Again, a great deal of the culpability lies with the American public’s refusal to pay even incrementally higher taxes to educate a future generation of leaders.

Still, Palin’s demonstrated lack of interest in the world, such as not being able to name even a single newspaper she reads, should unequivocally disqualify her for the presidency and will continue to cripple her should she try to run again in 2012.
Perhaps Alaskans will demand less intellectual savvy when she comes up for reelection in two years.
