IU alumnus and Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Thomas French has accepted a teaching position at the School of Journalism effective fall 2009.
French will serve as the Riley Endowed Chair in Journalism, a position named after IU alumnus J. Stewart Riley, the former owner and publisher of the Bedford Times-Mail and the Bloomington Herald-Telephone.
Since French graduated from IU in 1980, he worked for the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times. In 1998, he won a Pulitzer for "Angels and Demons," a series that told the story of a woman and her two children who were murdered.
At IU, he was a Poynter Scholar and editor-in-chief of the Indiana Daily Student.
