IU chosen as one of three sites to host a 2008 gubernatorial debate

The Indiana Debate Commission announced Thursday that IU was selected as one of the three Indiana locations to the host a 2008 gubernatorial debate, according to an IU press release.

If the candidates for Indiana governor agree to participate, IU would host the third debate on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the IU Auditorium. If the debate does happen, it is likely to take place at night and will be open to the public. The first two debates would be held in Merrillville and Jasper on Sept. 16 and 23, respectively, according to the press release.

The debates will be aired live by the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations.

“We are very pleased to be chosen as a gubernatorial debate site,” said IU President Michael A. McRobbie in the press release. “This promises to enrich the educational and research environment at the same time as it provides a window that reveals American democracy at work.”
