Chase ends in arrest

A Bloomfield teenager was arrested shortly after midnight Monday night after leading police on a short chase through Bloomington’s southwest side.

Officers Joe Henry and Chris Scott noticed a white Cadillac traveling north on Rogers Street near Graham Drive that did not dim its headlights when approached and had no license plates. The driver was also not wearing a seat belt. The officers attempted to pull the car over, but the driver did not stop.

The chase winded through several area neighborhoods before the driver stopped and bailed out of his car at Eagleview Drive. Officers continued pursuing the man on foot until the suspect surrendered near Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4003 S. Rogers St. When the driver bailed from the vehicle, he left the car in neutral. It then rolled backward into the squad car and damaged both vehicles.

Other officers arrived on the scene to assist Henry and Scott and to search the man’s vehicle. Inside they found three handguns – a nine-millimeter, a 357 magnum revolver and a .25 calibur, as well as a 12-gauge shotgun. There was also a Smirnoff party pack with five unopened bottles inside the container, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The teen was transported to South West Indiana Youth Village facility in Knox County and charged with three counts of possession of a handgun without a permit, resisting arrest with a vehicle, resisting arrest, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, possession of paraphernalia and operating without a license.
