Sophomores launch Web site for Little 500 events

Sophomores Russell Markus and Craig Doner wanted to do something different this year for Little 500.\nWith the race nearing, Markus and Doner came up with the idea to create a Web site, www.little500events.com, which features all of the Little 500 concerts and events going on during the week.\nWhile the site was a spur-of-the-moment idea, the two sophomores have been spending a lot of time building up the Web site and adding new features. \n“We came up with the idea about two weeks ago,” Markus said.\n“We figured we might as well do something with our time while getting ready for one of the biggest college weekends.”\nWhile Markus is responsible for calling businesses to advertise on their site and collecting all of the events during the week, Doner is responsible for designing the Web site. \n“This is the first Web site I’ve built and put together,” Doner said. “We met with a graphic designer and that gave me a big push.” \nWhile the two men are putting up new events as they hear about them, they said they think the most important aspect of the Web site is their calendar section. The section is where students can find information about all the events going on.\n“Facebook was the base of finding everything that is going on,” Doner said. \nMarkus said they also made phone calls to make sure the information they posted about events was correct.\nFreshman Hannah Wickwire said she’s found the Web site helpful in finding out about things going on during Little 500 week.\n“Being a freshman, I don’t know all of the events going on,” Wickwire said. “It is awesome that there is something posted online I can look at.” \nWhile the site is still brand new, Markus and Doner plan to keep the site up for future years to come. \n“Our goal for next year is to be able to have students purchase concert tickets through the site,” Markus said. “Once we get more time on our hands we can do a \nlot more.” \nMarkus and Doner, along with others, will also be passing out laminated cards with all the events listed on them throughout campus for the remainder of this week and the rest of next week.
