5 Common ways to get caught by the 5-0

While IU students look forward to Little 500 like children to Christmas, the IU Police Department has a different view of the week. IUPD Capt. Jerry Minger shared some of the incidents IUPD runs into during Little 500.

“For 98 percent of the people who get arrested, or actually even 100 percent, it’s not because the officer snuck around or used devious, covert tactics to catch them,” Minger said.

Urinating in public view:

“We don’t sneak around and hide in bushes to catch people,” Minger said, referring to a student who stopped 20 feet away from a cop car and urinated on the side of Briscoe.

Walking into the middle of traffic:

This is especially good when students walk right in front of a police car.

Hailing a cop car as a taxi:

If a student is too intoxicated to tell the difference between a cop car and a taxi, that is more than enough cause for police, Minger said.

Walking down the street with a beer glass:
Keep the glasses inside, kiddies!

Getting in an altercation:
One of the easiest ways to summon IUPD to a scene is by getting in a fight. So play nice with others.
