Give to RAISE

On campus, there exist so many great and worthwhile clubs and organizations. As an incoming freshman last year, I was unaware of the many organizations available to get involved with. I conducted some research on the various groups and attended a few meetings but was not satisfied until I went to a Raising Awareness of Interactions in Sexual Encounters meeting. I had finally found what I was looking for. RAISE is an organization run out of the Office for Women’s Affairs that does many outreach education programs around campus and in the community. The group’s goal is to raise awareness about sexual assault and sexual communication. I am writing to ask for assistance in one of the new initiatives RAISE has become involved in that is in need of great attention. When students register for classes, they are prompted to choose from a list of meaningful causes that they would like to donate to. One of the boxes that students can check off is the IU Rape Crisis Fund. After talking with many students across campus, it is apparent that there is not a wide spread awareness about what this three dollar donation goes to. Since these students do not know where their money is going, they are not checking the box. As a member of Register Against Rape and RAISE, this matter concerns me. The support that comes from the IU Rape Crisis Fund is distributed to various organizations across campus and around the community. The money is used to help victims of sexual assault crimes and to help educate people about the issue. Not only is this money used to assist victims and provide education, but it is also used to help fund many other worthwhile causes across campus. We need student body support. Over the next few weeks, while registration is going on, there will be multiple campaigns going on to bring attention to the fund. Any questions regarding the IU Rape Crisis Fund can be directed to raise@indiana.edu. Keep the IU Rape Crisis Fund in mind when registering for classes.
