‘Fatal Attraction’ funny, engaging

For a fun evening, theater fans should check out the Bloomington Playwright’s Project’s newest production, “Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy.” \nThe play is clever, fun-filled and even a little bit raunchy, but most of all it keeps you entertained from one moment to the next. \nThis parody of the 1987 thriller movie, “Fatal Attraction,” makes fun of the most dramatic scenes of the film and the ’80s in general. From outrageous situations to a coordinated dance, actors Michael Carey, Carmen Rae Meyers, Bethany Barber and Justin Harner grab your attention.\nThe play, written by Alana McNair and Kate Wilkinson, and directed by Richard Perez, exposes the absurdness of the stereotypical characters of the time, making the audience aware that Glenn Close (Meyers) is a “working girl” and Anne Archer (Barber) is a “house wife.” \nMichael Douglas (Carey) and Close meet at a party and later engage in an affair when Douglas’s wife, Anne Archer, leaves town to find a house with their daughter Ellen (Hamer). \nWhat was once a “good time” quickly turns into a nightmare when Douglas admits to Close that he is happily married and no longer wants to continue with \nthe relationship. \nThe actors stage everything to the point, and the story becomes hilarious. \nThe play originally premiered off-Broadway staring actor Corey Feldman – from ’80s films such as “The Goonies” and “Stand by Me” – as the character “Michael Douglas,” said Perez, who is also the Bloomington Playwright’s Project’s producing artistic director, in an e-mail. \nThe play will continue this weekend, with performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday. Performances will continue next weekend with shows at 8 p.m. Thursday through Nov. 17.
