With the 2008 Presidential primaries still months away, voters are already weary of debates and coverage in our new era of an unending campaign season. Since you’re probably as bored with presidential politics as I am, I’d like to divert your attention to another important decision that will be made Oct. 12 : the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize. My pick? The “doctor of democracy” himself, Rush Limbaugh.\nYes, that harmless, lovable little fuzzball, affectionately known to millions as “El Rushbo,” has been nominated by Landmark Legal Foundation for this year’s prestigious pinnacle of pacifism. Landmark President Mark Levin explained in his nomination letter:\n“For 18 years he has used his show to become the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today. Every day he gives voice to the values of democratic governance, individual opportunity and the just, equal application of the rule of law – and it is fitting the Nobel Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a truly peaceful world for future generations.”\nAnd he does all that, I might add, with half his brain tied behind his back, just to make it fair.\nIn endorsing Rush for the Nobel Peace Prize, I am of course overlooking the indignity of granting to such an honorable man an award that has been shared by the likes of Yasser Arafat, Mikhail Gorbachev, Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter. \nBut such is the high cost of peace. \nSo how is a “warhawk” like Rush a champion of peace? Because he understands that peace is achieved through the victory of good over evil. It may feel more peaceful to mind your own business, smoke pot, eat locally grown organic food and never cut your hair, than to ... let’s say, assemble the largest military in world history. As Lyndon Johnson asserted in a famous campaign commercial, “We must either love each other, or we must die.” \nCan I get a kumbaya? \nBut just because you want to be loving and peaceful doesn’t mean that your enemies will leave you alone. Or, as Ronald Reagan put it, “There’s only one guaranteed way you can have peace, and you can have it in the next second: surrender.” America’s enemies would like nothing more than for us to stop fighting and be consumed by tyranny and oppression.\nLike it or not, we face enemies. Liberal peace activists believe they can avoid conflict by the sheer radiance of their own goodness and likeability. Yet they lack the moral character to fight to protect those things that matter most in life. The result is that evil people aren’t confronted and destroyed, but are allowed to continue threatening, killing and creating terror around the world. What’s peaceful about that?\nSo if you’ve tried such traditional peacemaking methods as attending rallies and protests, tying ribbons on trees and joining Facebook groups but are frustrated by the lack of tangible results, I’d like to suggest listening to Rush Limbaugh every weekday from 1 to 4 p.m. on 1370AM or visiting www.rushlimbaugh.com. \nTo paraphrase the old peace-loving “fight” song: All we are saaaayyying ... is give Rush a chaaaaance!
Peace through Limbaugh
