Finances are the most central and important matter to the policies the board of trustees deals with, and for this reason the elected trustee needs to have a firm grasp on the University’s economics. For this reason, I endorse candidate Steve Miller.\nMiller has previously served as IU treasurer and is the most financially realistic candidate running for the position. While the other candidates gave vague or unworkable ideas about how to raise money for the school and get it to the places it needs to go, Miller believes that the University would be improved by doing more cost-benefit analyses of our financial problems and choosing what will be most beneficial in the long run rather than what will be most popular at the moment.\nHe supports a more comprehensive financial plan than other candidates, saying in an e-mail interview that to raise more funds for IU, “We need to partner with Purdue, the state government and private industry,” whereas other candidates merely said they would look at their options or gave a way to improve one minor aspect of University finances. \nBecause he is the most financially realistic candidate, I endorse Steve Miller.
