Astronomy department invites students, public to view Mercury crossing sun

The IU Department of Astronomy will open the Kirkwood Observatory and set up telescopes to view the transit of Mercury across the sun Wednesday. A telescope will be set up outside the Sample Gates from 2:15 to 5:15 p.m. for the viewing. \nPeople should not attempt to look at the Mercury crossing the sun with the naked eye because it could cause serious damage. Students are encouraged to stop by to view the transit and talk with members of the astronomy department.
