This, that and the other (06.17.2006 - 4:43 PM)

So last night took me from What Stage to Which Stage to This Tent to That Tent and even a brief stint at The Other Tent. These are actually the names that they gave the stages at Bonnaroo. I guess they were trying to be cute but really it is just annoying. I mean I innocently ask some one where Nickel Creek is playing and all of the sudden we drop into an Abbot and Costello routine.

"Which stage are Nickel Creek on?"

"What?"

"They are on what stage?"

"No I didn't hear you."

"Where is Nickel Creek playing?"

"This Tent."

"Oh. They're playing here."

"No, this is That Tent."

"Oh so they are playing in the other tent?"

"No they are playing in This Tent."

"But you just told me they weren't playing here."

"They aren't, this is That Tent that tent is This Tent."

At this point I usually just decide to forget about the whole thing and go get a funnel cake. \nLast night's shows brought in the big names for some late night music. I attempted to get in for Tom Petty but that ended up being a near impossible endeavor. It was standing room only for about half a mile up to the stage. I was sitting so far away that I could neither hear the music nor could I see who was playing even on the big screens. At one point he brought a special guest up and at first I thought it might have been Warren Haynes… turned out to be Bonnie Raitt (I guess that is an easy mistake to make). After about 15 minutes of sitting around trying to pretend like I could hear what was going on I took off and headed out to the beer tent instead. That might have been my favorite moment of the night, although Umphrey's McGee was stellar, Common was pretty great, and I did rather enjoy my cat nap during the 2:00 am Blackalicious set. \nUnfortunately, this will be the only entry tonight because staking out great seats for Radiohead and Beck takes precedence. But check in tomorrow for more coverage.
