A plea of not guilty was entered for Mark C. Gillette last week by a judge because Gillette, who was accused of promoting prostitution, didn't have an attorney, said IU Police Department Lt. Jerry Minger. \nGillette, 44, was arrested last Monday after a six-week undercover investigation prompted by a complaint from a 16-year-old boy found him to be soliciting prostitution to boys at a local shelter, according to a May 11 IDS article. Police discovered that Gillette had taken both the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male to a computer cluster at the HPER building to show them pornography and had "interviewed" them by performing oral sex on them, according to the article.\nAt this time, police believe Gillette had no accomplices, Minger said. He said there wasn't anything in police interviews with the two teenage boys or Gillette to suggest that anyone was on a payroll, such as a leader of a prostitution ring would keep. He said the only conclusions police could make were that Gillette had not succeeded in establishing a ring or that he was trying to use this as a way to start a sexual relationship with the teenage boys. \nA representative at the Monroe County Jail said Gillette is currently staying in the jail, but didn't know how long he would remain there. The representative said he hadn't posted any of his $50,000 surety bond.
