MARTINSVILLE -- A grand jury has indicted a suspect for the 2000 murder of IU sophomore Jill Behrman.\nInvestigators announced at a press conference Monday morning that Indiana State Police arrested John R. Myers II, 30, in his Ellettsville home without incident Sunday. \nMyers has been charged with one count of murder. The grand jury also indicted Alisha T. Evans on two counts of perjury, both class D felonies, for allegedly lying to the grand jury. \nThough Myers has not been previously mentioned as a suspect in media coverage of the Behrman case, Indiana State Police Detective Rick Lang, the principle investigator in the case, said the investigation began to point to Myers in December 2004.\nMorgan County prosecutor Steve Sonnega said he believes Myers "knowingly and intentionally" killed Berhman, seemingly dismissing the previous theory that the IU student had been hit by the car and her body dumped in Morgan County. Lang said investigators also believe Myers had never met Berhman before May 31, 2000, when she disappeared.\nSonnega and others made it clear that Myers' indictment only begins a long legal process and that his guilt remains to be seen, but Jill Berhman's father, Eric, said he believes Myers is the man who killed his daughter.\nMany of the circumstances of Jill Berhman's disappearance -- including her cause of death - have been kept from the public in this investigation, but all particulars are likely to surface in the trial of Myers.\n"I think a lot of people will be shocked when they learn the details of this case," Eric Berhman said.\nCheck idsnews.com and Tuesday's paper for updates.
